GEO & AI search glossary
AI share of voice
What is AI share of voice?
How often your brand is named, relative to competitors, when a set of buying-intent questions is put to the major AI engines. It is the closest thing GEO has to a ranking report.
You measure it by fixing a question set, asking the same questions across engines on a schedule, and recording who gets named. The output is a percentage per engine plus the specific questions where a competitor owns the answer and you do not.
MyFast.ai runs this monthly across ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, DeepSeek and Meta AI with 100+ buyer-intent queries, and the citation gaps it exposes decide what gets published next.
Related terms
- LLM citationA mention of a source, brand or URL inside an AI-generated answer. Citations are the visibility currency of generative search: if the model does not cite you, the user never learns you exist.
- Off-model brand sentimentWhat the rest of the web — forums, communities, review threads — says about a brand. Generative engines read these sources when deciding whether a brand is credible, which is why GEO work extends beyond your own domain.
- Generative Engine Optimization (GEO)The practice of shaping a brand's content and its footprint across the web so that generative AI assistants name and recommend that brand when they write an answer. Unlike SEO, the goal is not a ranked link — it is being the business the model mentions.
