Information gain
What is information gain in AI search?
How much genuinely new information a page adds compared with everything already published on the topic. Content that only restates what ten other pages say gives a model no reason to cite it; proprietary data and a unique angle do.
Retrieval systems deduplicate aggressively. If your page repeats the consensus, the model already has that sentence from a source it trusts more, so your version adds nothing and gets dropped.
Information gain is why MyFast.ai asks every client for proprietary numbers, internal benchmarks and real operating detail during onboarding. A figure only you can publish is the one sentence in the article that cannot be sourced anywhere else.

- Cite-backed evidenceHard statistics and named authorities included in the body of a page with their sources attached. In the KDD 2024 GEO study, adding statistics, citations and quotations raised a page's visibility in generated answers by up to 40%.
- Quotable expertA named, attributable person from your business who says something specific and repeatable in your content. Models anchor trust to real entities, and a named expert gives them a person to attribute a claim to.
- Generative Engine Optimization (GEO)The practice of shaping a brand's content and its footprint across the web so that generative AI assistants name and recommend that brand when they write an answer. Unlike SEO, the goal is not a ranked link — it is being the business the model mentions.
